The routine of the little things

If you repeat something over and over again, it eventually becomes routine. As such, you start living alongside the repetition, and at some point, you stop paying attention to it. While you’ve gotten used so much to what’s constantly coming into your field of vision, you’ll eventually become routine-blind.

But some days everything is different. Suddenly, as a little thing has changed, the routined focus turns away from the well-known tunnel vision. Thus you unexpectedly wake up from your everyday life, rub your eyes and realize that what’s in front of you is more remarkable than you thought.

Bikes in the Netherlands

I took this photo in August 2022. You can see a lot of Amsterdam bikes in front of an iconic houseboat in the city center of the Dutch capital. The city is famous for its cycling culture and has a very impressive infrastructure for cyclists (like the whole Netherlands). . However, other cities like The Hague, Eindhoven, or Almere outrank Amsterdam in terms of bike life. On average, the Dutch own 1,3 bikes per citizen that are old enough to use a bicycle. Therefore, you can also find big parking houses in Amsterdam or for instance in Utrecht.
