Self-made ideals (Sluishuis in Amsterdam)

Self-made ideals

The demands of today's society presuppose life in the fast lane. The modern man focuses on the future, flexibility, and agility. With a permanent smile, you are expected to go with the accelerated flow.

Though this ideal is self-made, we often treat it like a law of nature. Yet, it frequently falls into oblivion that we are humans, and life sometimes chooses surprising, unexpected directions.

Time seems frozen, and the future often appears unreachable when being stuck. Since dealing with yourself can be difficult and exhausting, little room is left for a smile or agility. Because everything is overwhelming, a feeling of failure quickly spreads, causing even more despair.

And although it may not solve the problem, detaching yourself from self-made ideals can reward you with the acceptance needed to set the first step to recovery.

Sluishuis - modern architecture in Amsterdam

January 2023 was a sunny and mild winter day in the Netherlands, the perfect day to visit the newly built Sluishuis. Located in the east of Amsterdam, this modern architectural building stands out in its surrounding with its geometrical and symmetrical design and is surrounded by water. The Netherlands is known for its experimental and forward-thinking architecture. While Rotterdam boasts many modern buildings, this one is situated in Amsterdam near the residential area of Ijburg. It is truly an astonishing example of contemporary Dutch architecture.
