Making an effort

When doing acts with personal importance, it usually doesn’t take long until all critics’ strictest shows up – oneself. This judge sets the highest standards, and accordingly, the requirements increase.

That way, individual importance often turns into personal effort. Consequently, the outcome has to be the best, the prettiest, and the most satisfying. While inner pressure continues to build up, it often appears like a new obstacle already waits for its turn right behind the previous one.

Yet if not pulling the emergency brake, the inside critic starts to cause exhaustion instead of an enjoyable outcome. Though it is often difficult to break out of this pattern, in most cases, no one really waits for proof that the result complies with the unrealistically high requirements but yourself.

Urban gardening in Amsterdam

I took this photo in early 2021. You can see the beautifully designed outside of a house in the Daniël Stalpertstraat. In Amsterdam, you can see many amazing examples of urban gardening, like the one in this photo. Urban gardens are a great way to add some green to your cityscape, and they can also help improve air quality. If you're looking for a way to make your city more sustainable, urban gardening is a great option.

Hi there, I'm Stefanie, the photographer, and author of the blog post you're reading now.
